YOUR INFORMATION
Privacy policy
How information is collected, used, and shared when you explore insurance through Policy Prospector.
Effective date: November 1, 2026.
1. Who we are
Policy Prospector (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides insurance-shopping and referral services. This notice covers PolicyProspector.com, the Opportunity Calculator, quote intake, and our related insurance-referral services and communications. It applies to prospective, current, and former customers. Carriers and other agencies may issue their own notices for information they handle independently.
This notice is not permission to send marketing messages, obtain consumer reports, or disclose information where separate authorization is required. It does not expand a specific permission you previously gave.
2. Information we collect
- Contact and household details: names, phone numbers, email and mailing addresses, marital status, spouse information, household members, and dates of birth.
- Insurance and risk information: carriers, policy types, premiums and payment frequency, coverage details, home ownership or rental status, escrow arrangements, property characteristics, vehicles, drivers, coverage lapses, and reported tickets or accidents. Driver’s license numbers and issuing states may be requested during quote intake.
- Information submitted or authorized: quiz answers, policy documents and connected policy information, messages, corrections, and information entered by an authorized agent.
- Records generated by the service: opportunity scores and their inputs, customer profiles, notes, quote and referral records, timestamps, communication history, and notice and permission records.
- Technical information: hosting and security services may process IP addresses, browser and device details, request times, page requests, and error or security logs to deliver and protect the website.
Provide information about another person only when you have authority. Do not send passwords, Social Security numbers, payment-card details, or medical records in ordinary email or general inquiries. An insurer may separately request additional information through its own process.
3. Sources of information
We receive information from you, people acting with your authority, policy-connection services you choose to use, and insurance professionals or service providers involved in your request. When you follow a Canopy Connect link, review its authorization screen and privacy notice. What is shared depends on your authorization and that service’s capabilities. This policy does not itself authorize policy retrieval or credit, claims, or motor-vehicle reports.
4. How we use information
We use information to save and review insurance opportunities, maintain and correct profiles, evaluate quiz answers, prepare and route quote requests, coordinate comparisons, communicate within your permissions, support authorized follow-up, administer and secure the service, document permissions, address disputes, and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations.
Software rules produce opportunity scores from submitted answers. Where automated or AI-supported tools assist with organizing information or comparing options, they support the review process and do not themselves bind insurance coverage. Later retrieval, renewal review, or outreach remains subject to the authorization and notice required for that activity.
5. Information sharing
Depending on your request, permissions, and applicable law, recipients may include:
- Insurance professionals: agencies, agents, brokers, carriers, quoting professionals, and referral partners involved in obtaining, evaluating, presenting, or servicing your requested coverage. A request can involve multiple recipients, and information may be transmitted through a quoting portal or in a document or email attachment.
- Service providers: hosting, database, authentication, document-processing, policy-connection, business-software, and communication-delivery providers supporting the service.
- Legal and professional recipients: advisers, regulators, law enforcement, or other recipients when disclosure is legally required or otherwise permitted to address fraud, security, legal claims, or protection of rights.
- Business transactions: parties evaluating or completing a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of business assets, subject to applicable confidentiality duties, privacy restrictions, and required notices.
Relevant quote information can include identifying, household, property, vehicle, driver, and insurance details. Hiding phone or email information in a referral does not make the remaining record anonymous. Independent recipients have their own responsibilities and notices. Sharing remains subject to permissions and restrictions associated with the information.
6. Phone calls, email, and text messages
Submitting a quiz or viewing this policy does not enroll you in unrestricted marketing. Quote-contact permissions apply to the purposes described when you give them. Permission for a quote-related message or Canopy Connect link does not authorize unrelated promotions or another company’s marketing.
Mobile numbers and text-message opt-in records are not to be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Service providers and mobile carriers may process what is necessary to deliver an authorized message. Broader sharing provisions in this notice are subject to this restriction.
You may withdraw communication permission by contacting us or your assigned agent. If you receive a text from us, reply STOP to opt out; for help, use the contact details below. Message and data rates may apply. Frequency depends on your request and authorized communications. Marketing email, if offered with the required permissions, will provide an unsubscribe method. Opting out does not require deletion of records we must retain or prevent legally required notices.
7. Website storage and connected services
We use browser storage and related technologies to operate the website and maintain your session. Information you submit may be saved in our database. Closing a tab or clearing browser data does not delete submitted records.
Authentication and connected services may use cookies or similar technologies for sessions and security. Browser settings can control cookies, although blocking them may affect functions. External sites have their own practices; displayed carrier names do not mean those companies control this site.
8. Retention and security
Records may remain after a request ends. Retention depends on the purpose, insurance and other legal requirements, permissions and opt-outs, dispute or fraud-prevention needs, and backup schedules. We do not promise immediate deletion of every copy. A limited record may remain to document compliance or honor a do-not-contact request.
The application restricts team-workspace access and uses access controls for customer-record operations. No website, email system, or storage method can guarantee absolute security. Do not share private quote links or credentials. Report suspected disclosures through the contact below. This notice does not waive applicable incident-notification duties.
9. Your privacy choices
You can ask us to review or correct your information, stop optional outreach, or explain use and sharing associated with your request. Depending on your state, the data involved, and applicable exemptions, you may also have rights to access, obtain a copy of, or delete data; opt out of certain disclosures, sales, sharing, or targeted advertising; limit certain sensitive-information uses; or appeal a privacy-request decision. Insurance and financial privacy rules may apply separately from general state privacy laws.
To make a privacy request, contact the Policy Prospector agent assisting you through your existing email, phone, or text conversation. Describe the requested action and provide enough information to locate your record. Do not email a driver’s license image or other sensitive identification unless an appropriate verification method has been arranged. We may verify identity or a representative’s authority. We will explain any limitation or denial and any appeal procedure required by applicable law. We do not penalize you for exercising legally protected rights.
Where notice and an opportunity to opt out are required before sharing, a footer link alone does not eliminate that obligation. Limits on optional sharing do not necessarily prevent disclosures to fulfill an authorized insurance transaction or otherwise allowed by law. Requests about a carrier’s own records should also be directed to that carrier.
10. Children and household drivers
The service is intended for adults seeking insurance. An authorized parent or guardian may supply minor-driver information for a household insurance request. The service is not directed to children under 13, and they should not submit information directly. Contact us if you believe a child submitted information without appropriate authority.
11. Policy changes
Updates will appear here with a revised effective date. If a change requires additional notice, permission, or an opt-out opportunity, that process must occur before the affected use or disclosure. Revising this notice does not retroactively expand your permission.
12. Contact
For questions about this policy or your personal information, contact the Policy Prospector agent assisting you through your existing email, phone, or text conversation.
